Although many people are interested in getting a tattoo, they often struggle to find out what design they want and where to get it. This is a decision that they have to make very carefully as it is going to stay on their skin for life.
‍Ink Tank is an app to help people finding their ideal tattoo design, where users can explore inspiration for tattoo designs according to their preferences.‍
It also allows users to search a tattoo artist and studio. Users can check artists’ portfolios, customer reviews, and other information they need to decide if the artist/studio is right one for them.

In order to understand the current tattoo app market, I conducted competitive analysis of the following two apps.

They claim themselves as “the world’s largest tattoo community”. “Tattoodo is the world’s premiere destination for tattoo culture and lifestyle and the Global Booking Platform for reputable shops.”

Overall Strategy

They focus on their booking feature in addition to the platform where people can share their tattoo art. In addition to these two features, they write articles and create their own videos (Tattoodo TV) where they introduce artists or people’s experience.

Users are worried and struggling with finding a perfect artist and design

After getting a basic idea of the current market, I conducted user interviews to find out problems that users have. The interview results revealed the following problems.

Difficult to find a trustworthy artist with a certain style nearby

Difficult to find a design which perfectly matches user’s preference

Afraid of pain; Unsure if they are ready to go through the process

After identifying the problems and exploring the solutions, I started listing up the tasks to be completed by users and forming the structure of the app.

Based on the structure, I started designing each screen with pen and paper. Once the digital prototype was ready, I conducted usability tests with potential users. After the tests, I updated the prototype to address the errors that were detected.

When users find an artist, they need to consider many factors, such as the artist’s style, customer reviews and location. Ink Tank allows users to narrow down the list to find the perfect match!

Learn about the artists

In order to find a artist that users can trust, they need to check the artist’s portfolio, customer reviews and practical information. Ink Tank offers all the information in the artist page.

Save your favourite designs

Users need to explore a lot of tattoo ideas to find the perfect design. Ink Tank allows them to save designs that they liked, so that they can check the designs once again for the inspiration.

Gain knowledge by reading articles

The more informed users are, the less concerns they would have. Ink Tank offers various articles for the users, so that they will be ready for getting a new tattoo!
